Transmission

Rievdadus

This CD, Transmission, is number two in an auditory trilogy, it is a continuation of the first part of the trilogy; Ludiin Muitalan (Telling with Yoik) DATCD48 with Ole Larsen Gaino. The first part was made to honour yoik and its origin, while this CD is a tribute to Nature.

When, I as a young reindeer herder, followed the reindeer herd through the seasons, I could not help, but become aware of the sounds of nature. Each season has its own shade of sound, every animal has a different tune and every bird has a distinct song. And the silence of - 40 degrees is striking. Everything plays a part in the ecological balance and biological rhythm. These sounds were my friends while growing up, and still are today. This is an important part of the world I live in. I surround myself with these sounds every day and I wanted to do something more with them one day. That has become manifest in this CD.

My frame of reference comes from the Sami way of thinking, our culture and traditions, our ideology. There is a transmission of energy from nature to man, a synergy between human beings and nature.

For thousands of years the Samis have lived from what nature gives, and still do so today. Even though the world has progressed in modern society and its like, nature will always make a progress of its own, and will show its true face regardless of what people do. Can you see clearly your surroundings and hear the sounds therein? Do you notice the world; can you hear and feel how it exists? If you can hear the sounds I have mentioned, if you can bring them with you into the future, they can be a reminder of your origins.

Transmission – Rievdadus lea nubbi CD auditiiva triologiija ráiddus ja lea joatkka Lásse Ovllá Luđiin Muitalan CD:i (DATCD48).

Cover_Orvos

Orvoš (2009)

Johan Sara jr. Group

JohanSara Jr. group’s newest album is called «Orvoš». The joik, one of the oldest European song traditions, is given a rough and modern expression together with electronica. Orvoš is harder that earlier productions, even though the album is based on the same archaic primal force and traditions. The music is inspired a number of different styles, and ties them together to a wholeness and a spiritual, meditative afterthought.

Orvoš stretches the limits further, both musically and in Sami vocal traditions, compared to former publications. The force and strength in this musical meeting takes joik into the sound image of the future and continues a thousand year long tradition of adapting joik to contemporary times and our reality. The joik is given a powerful and noisy frame, before it is drawn into the universe of electronica.

"Johan Sara Jr. continues to put the joik in new, exciting, landscapes. He is a master in renewal of old yoik traditions." - Rune Westengen, Romerikes Blad (rated 5 out of 6)

"Intence and great music it is impossible to be indifferent to" - Kjetil Bjørgan, NRK Kulturnytt

Johan Sara jr. has on this album worked together with some of the greatest Turkish musicians. A mindblowing mix of sami and Turkish musical traditions gives many musical surprises and a record that fits well into the Johan Sara jr. project of placing joik in unusual and exiting combinations.

“Johan Sara jr is as usual very professional, but always hunting for new building blocks in a musical univers without borders” – Rolf Edm. Lund, Altaposten.

Cover_boskaBoska (2003)

Johan Sara Jr. and Group

«Boska» is the second album by Johan Sara Jr. group. It can best be described as contemporary joik with thrilling vocals and sounds, rooted in traditional joik blended with folk music from other cultures. The music is progressive, has an original groove and is embellished with changing and dynamic loops with a touch of freebag-jazz, punk, electronic and digital music.

«The music is raw and throbbing, but can also be incredibly beautiful. All the time Sara's forceful and, at times, hypnotic voice is in the forefront. The album is among the most ground-breaking I have heard for a long time and have in it the power to appeal to audiences far beyond Sapmi.»
